Should You Trust Your Money To An Internet Savings Account?
Doug Smith

Defined Tag:

Many financial institutions allow their customers to bank online, so it should come as no surprise that you can get an internet savings account. It was a natural move that real-world credit unions and banks offer their services on the internet. It saves them time and money, because no people need to be hired to service the online customers. The move to banks that exist totally on the world wide web should come as no surprise. Online savings accounts can offer benefits that bank buildings cannot.

How safe is your money in an online savings fund? It is just as safe as a physical bank. Banks no longer keep all their customers' money in cash in a giant vault. Bank buildings store some cash in the vault for cash transactions, but the majority of the funds are accounted for in a computer system. With an internet account, your savings are still held inside a computer system, but there's no building. There's nothing to worry about.

Why would you even consider saving your cash in an internet account? Online-only banks have very low overhead costs. They offer all the financial services of a traditional bank. However, there is no building to buy or lease, there are very few employees, no expensive company benefits to offer, no cleaning services to hire, and so on. All the fees and expenses association with having a business inside a building are gone. Internet banks can offer you higher savings account interest rates, and lower loan rates, because they can afford to do so.

These high-yield online savings accounts are easy to access. They offer higher interest rates than traditional financial institutions. Account holders who want to deposit money for the long term stand to increase their balances substantially through the higher interest dividends. If is simple to transfer funds between your internet checking and savings accounts, and some online banks even offer you a debit card or even checks to enhance your online accounts. You can access your internet accounts from virtually any automatic teller machine (ATM).

Some online financial institutions offer money markets, home equity lines of credit, mortgage loans, online bill payment, and even investing. If these perks interest you, be sure that your online banker has them before you open an internet savings account for yourself.
